When I was a kid, I am wondering how household products works? such as laundry bar soap. Because in my home country, people are using laundry bar soap in everyday life. When I take a shower, I like to read the label on my shampoo bottle listed by many compounds. Why was there many compounds and How all ingredients are works? Today, I had answer most of these questions because I am working in cosmetic industry. I will write in my blog a more in- depth discussion of each compound, structure formula and the role of the ingredients in products. The cosmetic science is founded way back in long time ago. It's hard to believe that around the 15th to the 10th centuries BC, Ancient Egyptians had cosmetic products. The products was made from natural materials such as iron oxide, copper and lead ore. They applied these products to their lower eyelids, rid of scratch marks and shrink wrinkles. Also they made bar soaps made from animal fat mixed with powdered lime. (1) Today, in the global market of the cosmetic industry is a multibillion dollar enterprise and there were many major companies is making all kinds of cosmetic products such as lotion, shampoo, deodorant, eye makeup, sunscreen lotion, skin care products and more.....

Hi! cosmetic science is amazing! I'm an undergraduate student in biology, but i'm really intrested in cosmetic industry. So now I'm thinking about shift to chemisty or chemical engineering program. Could you give me some advise? Cause I read that you've been in both chemistry and chemical engineering =) so was wondering if you know which is better if I want to become a cosmetic chemist like you~^^

Hi Kat F,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. I would advise you, cosmetic chemistry degree is a lot better than chemical engineering degree in top economic time. Because in USA lot's of job available in cosmetic industry.In Chemical engineering is earning a good money but hard to find a job. Also, if you want to become the Cosmetic Chemist, you need to learn analytical instruments such as GC, HPLC and FTR. It will be very helpful to find a job in cosmetic industry.
Good a luck.
Thanks for ur advise! so that means a chemistry degree is better? Cause right now I'm in Concordia University in Canada, and my school doesn't have cosmetic chemistry program only offer a degree simply in chemistry. Or, I can just take chemistry and later choose cosmetic chemistry in master? i'm actually planning to do my master in US
ReplyDelete=)
